Day 1 - 2: Hanoi

We’ll meet you at Noi Bai airport in Hanoi - flight details to be advised. Before heading into town, you can change your dollars into dong at the airport currency exchange bureau. Afterwards, we’ll transfer you to your hotel. The rest of the day will be at your leisure. We’ll spend few minutes to go through our itinerary before we go to dinner in one of our recommended restaurants.

On day 2, we’ll take the day tour of Hanoi, starting with Ho Chi Minh complex, the house on stilts and museum. After that, we’ll visit the Temple of Literature which is regarded as the first university of Vietnam established in the year 1070. In the afternoon, it will be the Museum of Ethnology, an hour ride on the “cyclo” and Water Puppet show is a great finish to our busy day.

Day 3 - 4: Ha Long Bay

After breakfast, we’ll leave the busy Hanoi behind for Ha Long bay (4 hours drive). We’ll board our private boat and head out into the bay. Lunch will be on the boat while we cruise through the spectacular scenery of thousands of limestone karsts and isles of various sizes and shapes. There are opportunities to visit one of its beautiful limestone caves and swim in this World Heritage site’s emerald water. We’ll spend the night of day 3 on our boat.

In the morning of day 4, we cruise back to the habour and bus back to Hanoi. You can spend the rest of the day exploring Hanoi before we venture on the Unification Express overnight train to Dong Hoi.

Day 5: Dong Hoi

A local breakfast and coffee will start our day in Dong Hoi, the former De-militarise Zone. Our morning activities include a boat cruise along the water of Phong Nha cave. Recognised twice as the World Heritage, the cave holds 7 Vietnamese records for its natural beauty. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the Vinh Moc tunnel, Hien Luong bridge, the former border of the North and South during Vietnam war before taking our bus trip to Hue for the night.

Day 6: Hue

Today, we’re off to visit the Former Capital of Vietnam including the Forbidden Purple city, the 9 holy cannons and the Royal Citadel. We’ll take the boat cruise along the Perfume river to visit the Thien Mu Pagoda, where lived the first Buddhist monk who burn himself to protest against the Southern Government’s policy on Buddhism. You will have the chance to have a vegetarian lunch served by Buddhist nuns in Duc Son pagoda which also work as an orphanage, a home for nearly 200 babies and children. In the afternoon, we’ll see one of the local incense and conical hat makers then to one of the Nguyen Dynasty Emperor’s Tombs before the bus takes you back to the hotel. The night will be free for you to choose one of the local food restaurants.

Day 7 - 9: Hoi An

After a nice brekkie, you’ll need to leave Hue by about 8.30 AM. We’ll head down to Lang Co beach and then over the Hai Van pass, on to Da Nang. A nice stop at Cham museum will give you some understanding about the Cham people and their religion. You’ll arrive in Hoi An in the late afternoon.

Located on the Thu Bon river, Hoi An was known to early western merchant as the main trading port in South-East Asia. The architecture is a mixture of Japanese, Chinese, French and Vietnamese. A strange mix but beautiful nonetheless. Don’t forget to pop into any one of the dozens of tailor shops to get them started on all your new outfits!

In the morning of day 9, we’ll be off for Cham Holy land. Covering the area of 2 km, My Son was the burial place for Emperors of the Cham Kingdom. Sadly, nearly all of them were destroyed during the war, however the spirit is still there in every ruin. The afternoon and whole day 10 is free for you enjoy the fabulous Hoi An town. You can do some shopping, relax at the beach or visit some of the famous old houses and other picturesque sites that have loads of history attached to them. Try the Tan Ky House, the Fu Kien Assembly Hall, the temples and the Japanese Covered Bridge.
